Ian looks at how we "statistically" spend our lives and whether that is in fact, living. While not advocating blind optimism; Ian instead looks at a more complete understanding; that while life can throw us curve balls - everyone can get through it with perseverance and the right attitude. By citing humorous personal examples to overcome this, and giving hands on tips, Ian shows how letting go of negativity can really improve our outlook. Young Women's Political Leadership
Presented by Anna Smith, Jan Reid-Eveleigh, and Tanya Noble
This session is open to individuals of all genders, recognizing that we'll need all hands on deck to address inequality in our communities. Women make up 52% of Canada's population, yet only 24% of our political leaders on municipal, provincial and federal levels are female! For a variety of reasons, fewer women than men are running for election and consequently, fewer women's voices are leading political work to address issues that affect all of us.
Running for election isn't the only option you have to have your voice heard, however. In this session, we want to show you how many options there are to become involved in politics, and how your own political engagement is one way to address issues you see in your communities.
You'll leave the session knowing more about women's inequality in 2015, with a list of ways you can become politically engaged, and having worked with your peers to develop (and send!) your own message to your political representatives about an issue that matters to you.
